In the Li ethnic brocade interwoven with red, yellow, blue, and white, the warm fingers and delicate threads weave together the pursuit of beauty and respect for tradition by craftsmen, inheriting skills and conveying wisdom and emotions. Recently, the traditional textile, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery skills of the Li ethnic group have been transferred from the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urgent Need of Protection to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This in and out means that this 3000 year old skill has been protected, developed, and strengthened, with an increasing number of inheritors and a growing vitality. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of China's accession to the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Over the past 20 years, China has achieved universally recognized achievements in the field of intangible cultural heritage protection, and the achievements of China's intangible cultural heritage protection work are shining brightly. 44 projects have been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, ranking first in the world in terms of quantity. This is not only a high praise for China's efforts in protecting intangible cultural heritage, but also a recognition of China's efforts to maintain global cultural diversity. At the domestic level, the State Council has announced 1557 national level representative intangible cultural heritage projects, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has recognized 3056 national level representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, and the national, provincial, municipal, and county level intangible cultural heritage list projects have accumulated more than 100000 items. These data are undoubtedly the best proof of the richness and protection of China's intangible cultural heritage resources. It is particularly worth mentioning that China has innovatively established 23 national level cultural and ecological protection (experimental) zones, which provides strong support for the regional overall protection of intangible cultural heritage and creates a good ecological environment for the inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage. Like the traditional textile, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery techniques of the Li ethnic group, "Qiang Nian" was recently transferred from the "List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urgent Need of Protection" to the "Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity". The Qiang ethnic group is known as the "living fossil" in the evolutionary history of the Chinese nation, and its ancient culture has been fully protected in the Qiang cultural ecological protection zone. The successful practice of these protected areas not only promotes the deepening of domestic intangible cultural heritage protection work, but also provides valuable experience and inspiration for international intangible cultural heritage protection. The deepening of the protection of intangible cultural heritage cannot be achieved without the leadership of the government and the extensive participation of all sectors of society. The 14th Five Year Plan and the 2035 Long Range Objectives outline the important task of strengthening the systematic protection of intangible cultural heritage. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee also made important arrangements for the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage. By constructing a list of representative intangible cultural heritage projects, improving the inheritor system, promoting regional overall protection, and accelerating the construction of inheritance experience facilities, China's intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance system is becoming increasingly perfect, with a significant increase in dissemination and popularization, injecting new vitality into economic and social development. The protection of intangible cultural heritage is not only related to the inheritance and development of traditional culture, but also to the nourishment and enlightenment of modern society. Intangible cultural heritage, as an important component of China's excellent traditional culture, originates from the production practice of the people. It is an important content to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the people, enhance people's well-being, and promote high-quality economic and social development. Rural revitalization is a broad stage for the protection of intangible cultural heritage, which provides more vivid practical scenarios for intangible cultural heritage and revitalizes traditional skills in the wave of rural revitalization. The two complement each other and will surely weave a colorful picture of rural cultural revitalization together. (New Society)
