On December 25, Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, met with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who was visiting China, at the Great Hall of the People.
Li Qiang said that currently, China-Japan relations are at a crucial stage of improvement and development. Last month, President Xi Jinping held a meeting with Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru in Peru. The two sides unanimously agreed to work together to comprehensively promote the China-Japan strategic reciprocal relations and were committed to building constructive and stable China-Japan relations that meet the requirements of the new era. China is willing to work with Japan to grasp this correct direction, implement the important consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries, promote the continuous and healthy development of bilateral relations, and achieve more new results in practical cooperation.
Li Qiang pointed out that China and Japan are neighbors separated only by a strip of water and are neighbors that cannot be moved away. The solemn commitment jointly made by the two countries is that "they are each other's cooperation partners and do not pose a threat to each other." It is hoped that the Japanese side will work with the Chinese side in the same direction, abide by the principles established in the four political documents between China and Japan, face up to history and look to the future, constructively and properly manage differences, and safeguard the overall situation of China-Japan relations. Currently, instability and uncertainty in global development are on the rise. The two sides need to expand economic and trade relations and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation so as to better benefit the enterprises and people of both countries. Amity between the people holds the key to sound state-to-state relations. The two sides should further strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges to consolidate the foundation of friendship.
Toshimitsu Motegi said that Japan and China have a history of friendly exchanges spanning more than 2,000 years and currently bear important responsibilities for regional and international affairs. The Japanese side is willing to work with the Chinese side to strengthen exchanges at all levels, especially people-to-people exchanges, along the direction determined by the leaders of the two countries, promote mutually beneficial cooperation and the improvement of the public opinion atmosphere, comprehensively promote the strategic reciprocal relations, and build constructive and stable Japan-China relations.(Outlook New Era)
