Xining, Qinghai: Intangible Cultural Heritage Tangka "Painting" Enters University Classrooms

2024-12-13

On December 12, 2024, students majoring in Arts and Crafts (Thangka) learned Thangka skills under the guidance of their teachers at the Art College of Qinghai University for Nationalities in Xining, Qinghai Province. Tangka is a unique form of painting art in Tibetan culture and the most representative intangible cultural heritage of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau. In 2001, Qinghai University for Nationalities included the traditional folk craft of Thangka in its higher education system, becoming the first higher education institution in Qinghai to offer courses related to Thangka. This major was later rated as a national characteristic major, realizing the transformation from the folk master apprentice inheritance model to the school teaching model, cultivating a large number of talents for traditional ethnic culture, and better inheriting the intangible cultural heritage Tangka.
