The reporter learned from State Grid Corporation of China that the first pumped storage power station in Shaanxi Province, State Grid Xinyuan Shaanxi Zhen'an Pumped Storage Power Station Unit 4, was officially put into commercial operation on the 12th, achieving a new breakthrough in large-scale regulated power supply in Shaanxi power grid. So far, State Grid Corporation of China has exceeded 40 million kilowatts in the capacity of pumped storage units in operation, reaching 40.26 million kilowatts, and 75 pumped storage power stations with a capacity of 94.04 million kilowatts under construction, providing reliable support for the construction of China's new power system. The accelerated evolution of the energy revolution and the construction of new power systems have brought profound changes to the power system. It is urgent to improve the system's regulation capabilities, serve the development of new energy, and ensure the safe and reliable supply of electricity. Pumped storage is a green, low-carbon, clean, and flexible regulated power source that is currently technologically mature, economically efficient, and can be developed on a large scale. It is known as the stabilizer, regulator, and balancer of the power system. The functional positioning of pumped storage has shifted from "peak shaving and system backup" to "energy storage, peak shaving, frequency regulation, phase modulation, system backup, and black start". Its role in ensuring the safety of the power grid, promoting the consumption of new energy, and improving the overall system performance is more prominent. In recent years, the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) has taken the development of pumped storage and improvement of system regulation capacity as an important strategic task. It has taken multiple measures to promote the development and construction of pumped storage, promote the green and low-carbon transformation of energy with high-quality development of pumped storage, and better support and serve Chinese path to modernization. In 2009, the company's installed capacity reached 10 million kilowatts, and in 2020 it reached 20 million kilowatts.
