2024-12-10

Over the past four decades and more, China has been telling its stories of success through its own development. These stories are about the rapid growth; about the achievement of lifting more than 700 million people out of poverty and eliminating absolute poverty; and about the advancement in science and technology, the success in taking the global lead in fields such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and autonomous driving. In the 21st century, China economy has grown rapidly, making it the world's second largest economy. From 2000 to 2023, its GDP rose from $.2 trillion to $17.8 trillion, and its trade increased from $474.3 billion to $594 billion. The urban rate rose from 36.2 percent to 66.16 percent. In 2023, China's share of the global economy was 17 percent. Looking back on China's path of economic development, several key factors are worth noting.
