On December 8th, the 2024 academic seminar on the Hualong Cave site released its results, confirming that the Hualong Cave people are the earliest ancient humans in East Asia to evolve into Homo sapiens (modern humans). The Hualong Cave site provides important research materials for exploring the origin of modern humans in East Asia. The Hualong Cave Site is located in Dongzhi County, Anhui Province. It was discovered in 1988 and is an important ancient human site that contains both human fossils and stone artifacts as evidence of human activities. Researchers have discovered about 20 ancient human groups, over 400 stone artifacts used by ancient humans, a large number of bone fragments with artificial cutting and chopping marks, and more than 80 vertebrate fossils at the Hualong Cave site so far. Through comprehensive research using various methods, researchers have determined that the ancient human life in Hualong Cave dates back to approximately 300000 years ago. It is reported that the Hualongdong people belong to an ancient human species that transitioned from ancient humans to modern humans. Their face and lower jaw have begun to evolve towards modern humans, with flat faces, high eye sockets, slender skulls, and the emergence of the embryonic form of the modern human characteristic - the chin. The emergence of the initial state of modern human characteristics has made the Hualongdong people considered to be the ancient humans in East Asia with the most characteristics of Homo sapiens (modern humans) and the earliest transition from ancient humans to Homo sapiens.
