Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on the 14th that China and Latin America view each other as opportunities for development, and believe that with the joint efforts of both sides, China Latin America goods trade will continue to maintain high-speed growth and achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win results. At the regular press conference that day, a reporter asked: The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean recently released the "2024 International Trade Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean" report, which shows that China is an important trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean and the fastest-growing market for exports in the region. From 2000 to 2022, the total trade volume of goods between China and Latin America increased by 35 times, while the total trade volume between the region and other parts of the world increased by 4 times during the same period. How does the spokesperson evaluate China Latin America economic and trade cooperation? Lin Jian stated that mutual benefit and win-win is the value orientation of the development of China Latin America relations. As shown in the report of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the trade volume of goods between China and Latin America has continued to expand in recent years, reaching 489 billion US dollars last year. In the first three quarters of this year, the trade volume of goods between China and Latin America reached 427.4 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%, and is expected to exceed 500 billion US dollars for the whole year. He stated that since the beginning of the new century, the growth rate of goods trade between China and Latin America has been much higher than that of Latin America and the Caribbean compared to other regions in the world during the same period, highlighting the highly complementary nature of the Chinese and Latin American economies. Thanks to its off-season advantage, Chile has become the second largest source of fresh fruit imports for China, and Chilean cherries have become a star fruit in China. The new energy industry chain in China also provides more economically accessible solutions for the green development transformation of Latin America. At present, China has 5 free trade partners in Latin America, signed early harvest arrangements for free trade agreements with Honduras, and substantially completed negotiations on upgrading free trade agreements with Peru. The rapid growth of goods trade volume between China and Latin America is driven by the vast market and bright development prospects between the two countries Lin Jian said that China is the world's second largest economy, with a middle-income group of 400 million, and is expected to double to 800 million in the future. Latin America and the Caribbean have a population of 660 million, a young population structure, and enormous economic development potential. China and Latin America see each other as opportunities for development, and we believe that with the joint efforts of both sides, the trade of goods between China and Latin America will continue to maintain high-speed growth and achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win results.
