Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan Youth 'Dream Chasing Greater Bay Area': Inclusive and Friendly, Better Balancing Work and Life

2024-09-10

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the promulgation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. In the past five years, the development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has been advancing rapidly, attracting a large number of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan students to come here and strive to become "Bay Area residents". In recent years, over 10000 college students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan have participated in the "Youth Pre employment Training Program" (hereinafter referred to as the "Youth Pre employment Training Program") to pursue their dreams in well-known enterprises and institutions in the Greater Bay Area. Among them, the four hotels under the Rosewood Hotel Group in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Qingyuan have recruited a group of interns from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan through the "Youth Pre employment Training Program". They use their holidays to experience the daily work of employees in five-star hotels, and in their desired positions, they have gone from "testing their skills" to "showcasing their abilities", integrating into the Bay Area life in just a few weeks. Caring for young people and supporting the development of "Rongwan" requires checking the bed for stains and hair, and then checking the duvet covers, pillows, cups... "Recalling her internship in the hotel room department, Chen Xingying from Hong Kong is still familiar with the process of room cleaning. Last summer, Chen Xingying applied for an internship position in the guest room department of the Guangzhou Rosewood Hotel through the "Youth Pre employment Training Program". She graduated from the hotel management major and frankly stated that this internship experience has "broadened her horizons". Wu Weiqi, the Director of Public and Welfare Affairs for Mainland China at Rosewood Hotel Group, was deeply impressed by Chen Xingying. The cleaning work in guest rooms presents certain challenges, with a large workload and meticulous requirements. Interns need longer time to familiarize themselves with the work. There are not many students who have applied for this position, and Chen Xingying is one of them. In 2023, with the smooth implementation of the "Hong Kong to Beijing" policy, the integration of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area will reach a new milestone, and the formation of a high-quality living circle in the Greater Bay Area will accelerate. In response to the trend of talent exchange and integration among the three regions, in the same year, the Rosewood Hotel Group joined the "Youth Pre employment Training Program". In addition to establishing the Rosewood Youth Development Special Fund at the Guangdong Youth Development Foundation to provide support, its hotels have opened 30 internship positions, covering key aspects of hotel management such as front desk, back office, procurement, corporate culture, and social welfare. This has brought many internship and practical opportunities for young people from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan to develop in the Greater Bay Area. The intern is interning at the Hong Kong Rosewood Hotel. Integrating care for the growth of young people into the hotel industry and commercial landscape, the Rosewood Hotel Group also relies on the "Rosewood Companion" program to provide global internship opportunities for young apprentices and set up skill enhancement programs for mentally disabled youth, helping young people cope with workplace challenges through practical actions. Wu Weiqi introduced that this year the group will continue to provide support for the "Youth Pre employment Training Program" through a special fund, and the number of internship positions open to young people from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan has increased to 40. We hope that students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan can gain work experience through internships and have a direct understanding of the work culture and atmosphere in mainland China. We also hope that they can take this opportunity to better realize their personal career ideals and integrate into the overall development of the country. To meet the diverse internship needs of young people from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, Wu Weiqi introduced that the group will continuously improve its internship plan and explore more opportunities for students to choose from. Last year, Hong Kong youth Cong Yaofeng planned to arrange his internship in Qingyuan before graduation. "My mother is from Qingyuan, and I go back to my hometown every year when I was studying." Through the application platform "Guangdong Internship" applet of the "Wings Spreading Plan", the system matched him with three Qingyuan enterprises, and he was very interested in the position in the Talent and Culture Department of Qingyuan New World Hotel under Rosedale Hotel Group. I studied hotel management in college and hope to learn about the operation of hotel systems through an internship. In addition, I have not yet been exposed to human resources work and would like to challenge myself. During the 6-week internship, Cong Yaofeng received pre job training with newly hired employees, gradually familiarizing themselves with resume screening, new employee training, employee benefits, and assisting in event planning, poster production, and other tasks. With the help of his leaders and colleagues, he made rapid progress, and his colleagues praised him for being "smart, hardworking, and able to teach him". After work, he dined at the staff canteen and walked back to the hotel staff dormitory to rest; Take the shuttle bus equipped by the hotel to go home at the weekend, or make an appointment with a colleague for a football bureau, and work and life are both right... Cong Yaofeng said: "Colleagues take care of me very much, teach me a lot of things, and I will soon integrate into the collective here." Cong Yaofeng (second from the right) took a group photo with his colleagues in the department. Anchoring his life direction in practice, this experience has further determined Cong Yaofeng's career direction. "I have developed a strong interest in working in the human resources sector, which will become my first choice for job hunting in the future," said Huang Yuan, the talent and culture manager of Qingyuan New World Hotel. "Hong Kong youth" like Yaofeng, who have excellent learning and adaptability, as long as they have solid basic knowledge and improve professional skills in the enterprise, they will have huge growth opportunities in the future. They generally have the advantage of language proficiency, which is more evident in the Greater Bay Area or international enterprises. In addition to internships, the Rosewood Hotel Group also participates in organizing exchange activities such as the Guangdong trip for Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan interns, leading visitors to K11 art exhibitions and the Chow Tai Fook International Financial Center. Through various forms of artistic expression and interactive experiences, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan students can fully experience the multi-dimensional immersive novel artistic charm and panoramic urban landscape of the Greater Bay Area. Support the continuous construction of a service guarantee system for Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan students under the "Youth Pre employment Training Program", such as purchasing accident insurance during internships and promoting the group's talent development projects. Promoting the "talent connectivity" in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and focusing on achieving the integrated development of young talents in the Greater Bay Area is not limited to the Gui Li Hotel Group. Since 2020, when the Youth League Provincial Committee and the Youth Federation of Sichuan Province implemented the "Wings Spreading Plan", they have extensively explored the resources of well-known enterprises, government departments and social organizations, and a total of more than 4600 institutions, including top 500 enterprises, government agencies and institutions, have focused on financial insurance, IT Internet, art media, medical pharmacy and other hot areas of interest, provided more than 16000 high-quality internship positions, and promoted the two-way rush of a large number of talents and enterprises. In the "Guangdong Internship" system, well-known employers including the Rosewood Hotel Group can complete job development, job allocation confirmation, and job registration online, while university students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan can complete registration online. Building a talent bridge for young people from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan provides unlimited opportunities in the 'Bay'. Last year, Taiwanese youth Huang Qing, who interned at Guangzhou Automobile Group through the "Youth Pre employment Training Program," shared, "We, who have not yet entered society and have no work experience, are like birds just preparing to learn how to fly. The 'Youth Pre employment Training Program' provides a platform for us to fly freely without fear
