The Hong Kong Airport Authority announced on the 9th that the reconfigured middle runway of Hong Kong International Airport has completed test flights, marking that the three runways are ready for full operation. The Airport Authority stated that they collaborated with the Civil Aviation Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Flight Verification Center of the Civil Aviation Administration of China in August to conduct mid runway test flights to ensure that the relevant air navigation service equipment, flight procedures, and ground light systems of the mid runway comply with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization. The Airport Authority will continue to aim for the full operation of three runways as scheduled before the end of this year. The Airport Authority stated that the three runway system will provide capacity for Hong Kong International Airport to meet the long-term air traffic demand of an estimated 120 million passengers and 10 million tons of cargo by 2035, consolidating the airport's leading aviation hub position in the region. After the north runway of Hong Kong International Airport was put into service in November 2022, the middle runway was temporarily closed for reconfiguration to accommodate the development of the three runway system.
