On August 28-29, the China US Christian Forum (2024), jointly hosted by the Chinese Christian Council and the North American Asia Pacific Forum, was held in Chicago, USA. A Chinese Christian delegation consisting of 18 representatives led by Wu Wei, President of the China Christian Council and Dean of Jinling Union Theological Seminary, participated in the forum. The forum is themed "Opportunities and Challenges of Christianity in the Post Pandemic Era", with over 40 participants from major Christian denominations, seminaries, and church institutions in the United States. On the evening of August 27th, the welcome dinner hosted by the American organizers was presided over by Bruce Woodcock, Co Chairman of the North American Asia Pacific Forum, who introduced the Chinese and American guests to the event. He warmly welcomed the visit of the Chinese Christian delegation to the United States. Wu Wei and Elizabeth Amy Eaton, the Chief Bishop of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, delivered speeches respectively. On the morning of August 28th, the China US Christian Forum (2024) opened. The opening ceremony was presided over by Lin Manhong, Vice President and General Secretary of the China Christian Council, and Patti Talbot, Vice President of the North American Asia Pacific Forum. Wu Wei, Bruce Woodcock, and others delivered speeches. Wu Wei stated that Christianity between China and the United States has witnessed many important historical moments in the past few decades of exchanges, which not only made American churches more aware of China's policy of religious freedom and the three self principles of independent and self managed Chinese churches, but also deepened the friendship and trust between Chinese and American churches. I hope that through this forum, the Christian communities of China and the United States can reach more consensus and create a broader future for cooperation between the two countries' Christian communities. Bruce Woodcock believes that the forum not only constructs and deepens the friendship between the churches of China and the United States, but also serves as a beautiful example of people to people diplomacy between the two countries. He hopes that this forum can continue to play a positive role in the exchanges between the churches of China and the United States in the future. After the opening ceremony speeches, Wu Wei and Rafael Patila delivered keynote speeches on the theme of "Review and Prospect". Sixteen pastors and scholars from China and the United States gave keynote speeches on four sub topics: education and talent development, social care, research and publishing, and church ministry. On the morning of August 29th, the China US Christian Forum (2024) held its closing ceremony. The closing ceremony was presided over by Gu Jingqin, the temporary head of the Overseas Liaison Department of the Chinese Christian Association and the Asia Pacific Department Director of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Shunxiao Ishida. Lin Manhong and Chen Shenli, the Southeast Asian Regional Director of the American Baptist Church, delivered speeches respectively. Lin Manhong stated that the brilliant keynote speeches and thematic speeches delivered by the representatives of China and the United States have achieved beautiful results of in-depth exchanges, full understanding, and consensus building; This forum is a successful event for the Christian communities of China and the United States to strengthen mutual understanding and respect, and promote win-win cooperation; I hope that in the future, Chinese and American churches can strengthen exchanges, normalize the China US Christian Forum, and promote understanding and understanding between the churches and peoples of China and the United States. Chen Shenli affirmed the positive role played by this event in updating the exchange of church ministry between China and North America, and also suggested that more effective exchanges and conference forums could be carried out in the future. At the closing luncheon, Geng Weizhong, Vice President of the China Christian Council, spoke on behalf of the Chinese Christian delegation, hoping that the Christian community in China and the United States would become a positive force in promoting Sino US relations and contribute their own strength to the peace and development of both countries.
