Liwan Overseas Chinese Community: Painting Intangible Cultural Heritage Fan, Celebrating and Beautifying Mid Autumn Festival

On August 30, 2024, the "Overseas Chinese See Beautiful Li, Jia Chen, and Mei" fan drawing event was held at the Shamian Taomin Intangible Cultural Heritage Tea Base. The event is guided by the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation, hosted by the Taomin Intangible Cultural Heritage Tea Project Inheritance Base, and co organized by the Shamian District Overseas Chinese Federation. Its aim is to enable overseas Chinese to experience the beauty of excellent intangible cultural heritage and traditional culture through intangible cultural heritage skills, promote the excellent national and family traditions of "unity, reunion, and beauty", and convey the service philosophy and development concept of "coexistence of beauty and republicanism". This event attracted many overseas Chinese to participate enthusiastically. At the opening speech of the "Overseas Chinese See Beauty, Li Jia Chen, and Beauty" fan drawing activity, Bu Zhiqun, the chairman of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation, stated that the organization of the Overseas Chinese Federation undertakes the function of promoting Chinese culture and will implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to promote the "revitalization" of cultural heritage. Tuan Fan Painting is a microcosm of the rich intangible cultural heritage resources in Liwan, embodying the spirit of harmonious reunion, patriotism, and family love. The holding of the fan painting activity coincides with the Mid Autumn Festival, which not only promotes the inheritance and development of traditional intangible cultural heritage, but also promotes excellent national and family traditions, and promotes a new trend of socialist family civilization. Following the congratulatory speech by Bu Zhiqun, Chairman of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation, Huang Jianhong, member of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation and Vice Chairman of the Shamian District Overseas Chinese Federation, showcased the art of intangible cultural heritage tea making and explained the culture and history of tea making, allowing everyone to experience a different way of drinking tea and appreciate the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage tea making. Huang Jianhong, member of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation and vice chairman of the Shamian District Overseas Chinese Federation, showcased the technique of intangible cultural heritage point tea. Following this, the event invited painting teacher Yang Baoyi to explain the methods, steps, and techniques of painting flowers on a fan. Under the guidance of the teacher, the overseas Chinese who participated in the activity enthusiastically tried, and everyone was enthusiastic about learning from each other. They drew vivid flower pictures on the fan, turning the originally white line fan into colorful "works of art". Overseas Chinese held their own "proud works" and took a group photo to commemorate this beautiful occasion. Overseas Chinese draw fan clusters, named after their reunion like the moon, symbolizing people's hopes for happiness, contentment, and good fortune. The collision between fan painting and the Mid Autumn Festival is a fusion of traditional intangible cultural heritage and traditional festival culture. As one of the brand series activities of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation, the "Overseas Chinese Meet Beautiful Li, Jiachen, and Meimei" fan drawing activity not only provides a platform for communication among overseas Chinese, but also consolidates their hearts, gathers their strength, and enhances their cultural confidence and national identity. It is reported that Mr. Huang Jianhong is a representative inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Guangzhou Tea Art (tea making skills) and the head of the protection unit of the Guangzhou Tea Art (tea making skills) intangible cultural heritage project. He has been committed to "inheriting the tea making skills of the Song Dynasty and promoting the excellent traditional culture of China". He has also compiled and published tea making textbooks, developed raw materials and tools related to tea making, including tea making powder, tea making utensils, etc., and continuously improved production technology and quality to solve the problem of lack of systematic teaching and tea making utensils in the market. In 2020, this technique was successfully applied for as a representative project of intangible cultural heritage in Liwan District, Guangzhou. As a protection unit for the tea heritage project, the Taomin Intangible Cultural Heritage Tea Project Inheritance Base will continue to use Guangzhou as its base, leveraging its geographical advantages as an international metropolis to continuously promote the construction of intangible cultural heritage. It will provide various platforms and institutions with cultural and professional services related to tea heritage display, teaching, exchange, customized high-end collections, and study tours, promoting Chinese tea culture and showcasing the charm of China's excellent traditional culture to friends from all over the country and the world.
