To strengthen economic cooperation and friendly exchanges between China and Portugal, on August 26th, the China Portugal Chamber of Commerce and the China Portugal International Trade and Investment Cooperation Center jointly held a China Portugal Economic and Trade Cooperation Negotiation Conference in Guangzhou. The event was attended by Dr. Jose Cesario, Secretary of State for Portuguese Overseas Chinese Affairs, Dr. Thomas Azevedo, Consul General of Portugal in Guangzhou, Paul Valor, Deputy Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for Portuguese Overseas Chinese Affairs, Vittorio Cardoso, Secretary, Mario Ferreira, Representative of the Portuguese Economic and Trade Investment Promotion Agency in Guangzhou, as well as Chinese and Portuguese entrepreneurs from various industries. Dr. Jo ã o Pedro Pereira, Executive President of the China Portugal Chamber of Commerce, stated in a video speech that the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area brings together 11 cities, including Hong Kong, Macau, and Guangzhou. Its development is highly strategic and has a great chance of becoming one of the top ten economies in the world. The opening of the Consulate General of Portugal in Guangzhou in 2018 also demonstrated the strategic foresight of the Portuguese government at that time. He believes that in the future, Portugal should increase its investment in southern China, and he eagerly looks forward to more Portuguese talents going to the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area for development. Dr. Jo ã o Pedro Pereira, Executive President of the China Portugal Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. Jose Cesario, Secretary of State for Overseas Chinese Affairs of Portugal, stated in his speech that he learned the importance of Sino Portuguese relations while living in Macau, China. Therefore, he is very pleased to witness the successful cooperation between the two countries' enterprises on site today. He also emphasized that the development of the two countries is rooted in the friendly exchanges between the Chinese and Portuguese people, and looks forward to further deepening the friendship between the Chinese and Portuguese people, and achieving closer cooperation and win-win outcomes between the two countries. During the event hosted by Dr. Jose Cesario, Secretary of State for Overseas Chinese Affairs of Portugal, the China Portugal Chamber of Commerce signed a new memorandum of understanding with the Guangzhou CEO Chamber of Commerce and the Elite Returnees Association. These agreements will promote closer cooperation between the two sides in areas such as trade, investment, and cultural exchanges, and help consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Portugal. During the event, Xi Yao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the China Portugal Chamber of Commerce, stated that "the successful holding of today's meeting marks an important step forward in China Portugal cooperation. We have successfully signed multiple memorandums of understanding and had productive discussions, which demonstrates that we have jointly established a solid foundation for cooperation and that there is unlimited potential for future cooperation between the two sides." The signing ceremony of Xi Yao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the China Portugal Chamber of Commerce, was attended by reporters from Xinhua News Agency. During the event, Chinese and Portuguese entrepreneurs also had in-depth discussions on upcoming cooperation projects, including talent exchange, project incubation, financial investment, and other fields. In the future, with the continuous development of China's economy, Portugal will play an increasingly significant role as an important hub connecting Europe, Africa and Latin America.
