On July 2, 2024, in the sand prevention and control area on the south bank of the Tarim River in Yuli County, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, the local forestry department laid water-saving drip irrigation facilities on the leveled sand dunes based on the movement law of the Taklamakan Desert sand dunes, planted salt and drought resistant plants such as Apocynum venetum and Haloxylon ammodendron, increased surface vegetation coverage, and slowed down the process of desertification. To win the battle against the edge of the Taklamakan Desert, Yuli County will adopt measures tailored to local conditions and classify them, fully promoting the lock-in and sand fixation project at the edge of the Taklamakan Desert, effectively curbing the trend of land desertification within the territory, and resolutely building a green ecological barrier. This year, the demonstration site project for sand prevention and control in Yuli County covers an area of 7300 acres, including 2000 acres of edge locking project implemented in the southern part of the Taklamakan Desert.
