On July 1st, the 8th China Switzerland Economic Forum (SSEF) was successfully held at the Beijing International Trade Hotel. Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, Wang Wentao, and Swiss Federal Commissioner and Minister of Economy, Education, and Research, Guy Pamlan, attended the forum. The China Switzerland Economic Forum is jointly held every two years in Beijing by the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and the Swiss Embassy in China. The China Switzerland Economic Forum event focused on hot topics, with renowned experts, leading entrepreneurs, business leaders, and innovators sharing strategic and practical insights of Swiss companies in the Chinese business landscape. Key areas include sustainability, talent retention, digitalization, life sciences, supply chain management, market access, and regulation. In addition, the executive exclusive forum provides valuable insights into the macroeconomic outlook for 2024 and beyond. More than 400 guests participated in this economic forum event, including senior executives from Chinese and Swiss companies, as well as senior government representatives from both countries. In his speech, Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, Wang Wentao, stated that "next year we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland, and the development of bilateral trade relations is facing new historical opportunities. I signed a memorandum of understanding with Commissioner Pamland, agreeing to officially launch negotiations on upgrading the China Switzerland Free Trade Agreement as soon as possible. If the China Switzerland Free Trade Agreement can be upgraded as soon as possible, it will inject strong momentum into cooperation in areas such as goods trade, service trade, and investment between the two countries." Swiss Federal Commissioner and Minister of Economy, Education and Research, Guy Pamland, recognized the continuously developing bilateral relationship between the two countries, as well as the increasing exchanges in education and research, and emphasized the close connection between Swiss enterprises and the Chinese market in his keynote speech. Pamlan said, "The pandemic has shown us that although the global value chain is tense, it has not been permanently broken. As an economy deeply integrated into the global economy, gaining geographically diversified market access is beneficial for Switzerland and enhances our ability to respond to crises." To promote insightful dialogue and diverse perspectives, various sub forums are led by the Industry Committee of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in China, inviting industry leaders as guests to explore their professional fields in depth and share the latest information and developments in their respective industries or related topics. The China Switzerland Economic Forum is the largest economic summit between China and Switzerland to date, providing a unique platform for dialogue, exchange, and partnership building between the two countries.
