At 15:00 on the 30th, the highly anticipated Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Super Project Shenzhen China Channel was officially opened for trial operation. The Shenzhong Channel integrates bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater interconnectivity, and is a national major project and a world-class cross sea cluster project. The Shenzhen Zhongshan Expressway has a total length of about 24 kilometers, with a distance of about 30 kilometers from the Humen Bridge to the north and about 31 kilometers from the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge to the south. It adopts the technical standard of a two-way 8-lane expressway with a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The Shenzhong Corridor is the core transportation hub project for building a comprehensive transportation system in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. As the key "horizontal" of the "A" shaped transportation network framework around the Pearl River Estuary, the Shenzhong Channel crosses the Lingdingyang Ocean, enabling the two major urban agglomerations of "Shenguan Hui" and "Zhuzhong River" on both sides of the the Pearl River Estuary to realize a direct connection across the sea. The travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan has been shortened from about 2 hours to about 30 minutes, and the two places have joined hands to enter the "half hour economic life circle". Lin Feiming, Director of the Department of Transport of Guangdong Province, said that the Shenzhen China Channel has the most cutting-edge technology in China's infrastructure construction, which is a vivid portrayal of accelerating the construction of a transportation power. Its completion and opening to traffic will completely change the overall road grid of the the Pearl River Estuary, which is of great significance to the economic and social development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The Shenzhen China Channel took 7 years to construct, and the project team developed 15 world first core materials, key technologies, and major national weapons, creating 10 "world's best". Since its construction, the Shenzhen China Channel has obtained over 200 invention patents, dozens of industry association awards, and has repeatedly received international acclaim. In April 2024, the Shenzhen China Bridge was awarded the George Richardson Prize at the International Bridge Conference, which is known as the "Nobel Prize" in the bridge industry. The Shenzhen China Tunnel was awarded the "50 iconic projects in the global tunnel and underground engineering field". "We adhere to independent innovation in key technologies and firmly grasp the leadership of innovation in our own hands." Song Shenyou, Director and Chief Engineer of the Shenzhong Channel Management Center, said that the Shenzhong Channel has completed multiple technological innovations, especially in the field of steel shell concrete immersed tube tunnel design and construction, forming original achievements, achieving a breakthrough from 0 to 1, and contributing Chinese solutions to the construction of world cross sea channel projects.
