UK develops multiple anti drone weapons

According to the website of the German newspaper Munich Messenger on May 17th, the UK is committed to becoming a global leader in drone defense technology. On the 16th, the UK Ministry of Defense announced a new type of laser weapon, which is said to be able to shoot down an entire drone swarm for just a few pence. The UK recently launched the drone killer Dragon Fire laser weapon. The UK Ministry of Defence stated earlier this year that the accuracy of this weapon is no less than hitting a coin from 1 kilometer away. At the same time, the cost is also very low. The British calculated that "the cost of firing for 10 seconds is equivalent to using an ordinary heater for 1 hour." London also promised to provide Kiev with this laser weapon to support Ukraine's resistance against Russia. The system will not be launched on the market until 2027, but it will be delivered to Ukraine before then. UK Defense Secretary Grant Sharps wrote on the 16th that the Dragon Fire laser weapon can "shoot down drones at the speed of light.". He also introduced a new technology: "We now announce that the UK's radio beam weapon can shoot down drone swarms for only 10 pence." This makes the system more cost-effective than the Dragon Fire. According to a statement from the UK Department of Defense, this is a "breakthrough new weapon - using radio waves to disable enemy electronic devices and destroy multiple drones at once.". The UK Department of Defense stated that the system is an example of Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapons (RFDEW). The London side stated that the weapon can be used to identify, track, and eliminate a range of threats on land, in the air, and at sea. At present, the weapon has a range of 1 kilometer, but the military is working to expand the range. The radio waves of this weapon can disrupt or damage the key electronic components of the drone, causing it to stagnate or "fall from the air". The British military will conduct comprehensive testing of the system in the upcoming summer. "The Ukrainian war has shown us the importance of using unmanned systems, but we must also have the ability to resist them," British Defense Procurement Secretary James Cattledge emphasized the importance of this new research and development. "As we increase defense spending in the coming years, our drone strategy will ensure that we are at the forefront of further development in combat methods." (Xinhua)
