May 15th is National Low Carbon Day. On that day, at the first national offshore wind power test base located in Shantou, Guangdong, a giant wind turbine tower was being lifted in full swing. It is reported that the wind turbine is a model developed by Dongfang Electric Wind Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Dongfang Electric"), with a capacity of 18 megawatts. It is currently the largest power level offshore wind turbine installed globally and will undergo grid connection testing at the end of May. It is reported that the installed unit has a wind turbine diameter of 260 meters and a blade sweeping area of over 53000 square meters, which is approximately equivalent to the area of 7.4 standard football fields. One revolution can generate about 38 kilowatt hours of electricity, and the average annual power generation of a single unit can reach 72 million kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to meeting the electricity demand of about 36000 households for one year. It can save more than 22000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 59000 tons. It is of great significance to carry out various tests and inspections before grid connection by relying on specialized wind turbine testing facilities, in order to ensure the stability and safe power supply of the power grid. "The wind power offshore test base is ready to conduct a comprehensive grid connection 'physical examination' for the units before large-scale application, providing a 'reassuring pill' for offshore wind power project owners and safeguarding the safe and stable operation of the power grid. Liu Zhengfu from the New Energy Service Center of Guangdong Power Grid Company (hereinafter referred to as" Guangdong Power Grid ") of Southern Power Grid introduced that after the completion of hoisting and power transmission at the offshore base, the 18 MW wind turbine units of Dongfang Electric will begin testing at the end of May. During this period, Guangdong Power Grid will actively arrange the operation mode of the power grid, monitor the equipment status, and fully serve to ensure the efficient and orderly certification and testing of wind turbines, laying the foundation for the future large-scale application of this model.". "The wind power offshore test base actively serves wind power manufacturing units, with two test stations in the first phase serving three new large capacity offshore wind turbines." Liu Zhengfu introduced that the offshore base has currently supported the safe and orderly grid connection of multiple offshore wind power projects in Jieyang, Huizhou, Shantou and other places. It is expected to increase the maximum certification and testing service capacity of offshore wind turbines to 24 MW by 2025, reaching a world leading level. In recent years, Guangdong Power Grid has continued to assist in the green and low-carbon transformation of energy. It is reported that the cumulative grid connected capacity of offshore wind power in Guangdong Power Grid has exceeded 10 million kilowatts; From January to April this year, the newly added grid connected capacity of new energy was about 5 million kilowatts, with a cumulative grid connected capacity exceeding 50 million kilowatts, achieving a new breakthrough in new energy installed capacity.
