More than four years ago, the event horizon Telescope (EHT) released a major astronomical achievement - the first picture of a black hole of mankind, which was jointly completed by more than 300 scientists around the world, in multiple places around the world. Its "doughnut" shaped image aroused widespread public admiration and continued attention in the academic world. The latest news from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) said that an international research team led by Lu Rusen, a researcher at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and leader of the Sino German Mapu Partnership Group, used the latest observations at the 3.5mm wave band to image for the first time the shadow of the black hole of the famous radio galaxy M87, as well as the annular structure of the surrounding matter falling into the central black hole and the powerful relativistic jet. This same frame image is the first to achieve imaging at a wavelength of 3.5 millimeters, and also indicates the connection between the accretion flow near the central supermassive black hole and the origin of the jet for the first time. The new photo of M87 black hole released this time was taken from April 14th to 15th, 2018. After complex data processing and mapping processes, as well as repeated verification and confirmation of the results, it was finally "developed" 5 years later and presented as an unprecedented new image. It has two differences compared to the first black hole photo released four years ago: firstly, the observation wavelength for this time is 3.5 millimeters, while the observation wavelength for EHT is 1.3 millimeters; Secondly, 16 telescopes were combined for this observation, while 8 telescopes were combined for EHT observation. The image shows the observed image of M87 black hole at a wavelength of 3.5 millimeters. (Outlook New Era Network)
