On March 23, 2023, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China, held a phone conversation with the French President's Foreign Affairs Adviser, Bonaparte, to exchange views on conducting high-level bilateral exchanges and promoting comprehensive strategic cooperation between China and France, and reached a new consensus. The two heads of state reached a series of consensus on expanding bilateral cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to multilateralism, upholding the authority of the United Nations, and jointly promoting world multipolarity and democratization of international relations. On the Ukrainian issue, China continues to uphold the basic position of promoting peace and promoting talks. The joint statement issued by the two heads of state made important explanations on the Ukrainian issue, sending a peaceful voice to the international community, demonstrating the desire for dialogue, meeting the common will of most countries, and clarifying the correct direction for political settlement of the crisis. China expects France and other European countries to also play their due role in this regard. Ceasefire, end war, resume peace talks, and resolve the crisis politically should become a strategic consensus between China and the EU. Boehner expressed his appreciation for the positive role played by China in promoting peace talks. On the Ukrainian issue, the French side does not support camp confrontation. Both France and China hope to end the crisis through political and negotiation.
