Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukeri said on the 18th that after years of tension, the leaders of Egypt and Türkiye have the political will to normalize relations. On the same day, Shukeri held a meeting with visiting Türkiye's Foreign Minister Chavushiolu in Cairo. During a joint meeting with reporters after the meeting, Shukaili stated that he and Chavushoglu discussed steps to restore bilateral relations between the two countries, and the two sides would reassign ambassadors to each other at an appropriate time. Chawushiolu said at a press conference that his visit is aimed at improving bilateral relations, and the foreign ministries of the two countries are working closely to arrange for the leaders of the two sides to meet. After former Egyptian President Morsi stepped down in 2013, relations between Egypt and Türkiye deteriorated, and the two countries subsequently downgraded their diplomatic relations. Türkiye and Egypt will start consultations with high-level diplomats in 2021. Especially in recent months, bilateral relations have shown a warming trend, with increased interaction between the two sides. (Liao Xinshe)
