On June 23, 2022, State Councilor and foreign minister Wangyi held a telephone conversation with Iranian foreign minister abdullahiyan at request. Abdullahiyan wished the BRICs leaders' meeting and the global development high level dialogue to be held by China a complete success and believed that China's presidency would create new opportunities for multilateral cooperation within the BRICs framework. Afghanistan stressed that Iran supports the global development initiative and global security initiative put forward by China. China attaches great importance to China Iran relations and is willing to continue to firmly support each other with Iran on issues involving their core interests and major concerns in the spirit of comprehensive strategic partnership. Abdullahiyan briefed on the latest progress in the negotiation on resuming the implementation of the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, saying that the bullying act of the United States is the main obstacle facing the current negotiation. Iran will firmly safeguard its national interests, and is also firmly committed to resolving differences through negotiation and striving for an early agreement. The Iranian side thanked the Chinese side for its constructive role on the Iranian nuclear issue. Wangyi said that China does not approve of any non constructive measures that lead to the escalation of the situation in turn. All parties should continue to uphold the correct logic of right and wrong and make unremitting efforts to reach an agreement through diplomatic efforts. China opposes politicizing the affairs of the International Atomic Energy Agency and supports the agency and Iran to resolve outstanding issues through dialogue and cooperation. The US side should earnestly recognize its own responsibilities and actively respond to Iran's reasonable demands.
