The first meeting of the Fourth National Cultural Relics Census Leading Group was held in Beijing on the 14th. Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and leader of the leading group, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. State Councilor and Leader of the Leading Group, Chen Yiqin, presided over the meeting. The meeting emphasized that the census of cultural relics is an important foundational work for the development of the cultural relics industry and a major survey of national conditions and strength. The meeting called for the urgent establishment of census institutions, improvement of census methods, sorting out census clues, implementation of census funds, and ensuring a good start to the fourth national cultural relics census. We need to strengthen political guidance, make good use of the main force, strengthen coordination and cooperation, mobilize public participation, create a strong atmosphere, punish illegal and disciplinary violations in the cultural relics census, and make the census a major action to improve the cultural literacy of the whole population and nourish the construction of spiritual civilization in the protection of cultural relics. We need to increase the protection of immovable cultural relics through census registration, promptly verify and announce cultural relics protection units, and establish a solid bottom line for cultural relics safety. China has conducted three national cultural relics surveys since 1956, 1981, and 2007. Through the fourth national cultural relics census, a national catalog of immovable cultural relics resources will be established to comprehensively grasp the situation of immovable cultural relics resources in China.
