2023-11-20

According to the WeChat official account of the National Immigration Administration, from November 17, 2023, China has implemented a 72/144 hour visa free transit policy for Norwegian citizens. At this point, the scope of China's 72/144 hour transit visa free policy has increased to 54 countries. Currently, three cities in China, including Changsha, Harbin, and Guilin, have implemented a 72 hour transit visa free policy, while 20 cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Qinhuangdao, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jieyang, Shenyang, Dalian, Qingdao, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Xiamen, Wuhan, and Kunming, have implemented a 144 hour transit visa free policy. Citizens of 54 countries who pass through the above-mentioned cities and travel to a third country (region) with valid international travel documents and a connecting ticket with a specified date and seat within a limited time can stay in the designated area for no more than 72 or 144 hours without applying for a visa. During the stay, they can engage in short-term activities such as tourism and temporary business visits. According to the relevant person in charge of the National Immigration Administration, the implementation of the transit visa free policy is a practical measure to ensure the country's high-level opening-up, facilitate the exchange of Chinese and foreign personnel, and promote foreign exchange and cooperation. Since China implemented the 72/144 hour transit visa free policy in January 2013, more than 500000 foreigners have enjoyed the convenience of this policy. Next, the National Immigration Administration will continue to focus on the new situation and requirements of China's high-level opening up to the outside world, actively benchmark international high-level economic and trade rules, continuously deepen the reform and innovation of immigration and entry policies, actively respond to the new expectations and demands of inbound and outbound personnel and international economic and trade exchanges, promote economic globalization, and assist China's open development, innovative development, and high-quality development.
