On December 22, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thornton, Co Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Asian Association of the United States, in Beijing. Wang Yi said that to achieve stable and sustainable development of China US relations, the US should first establish a correct understanding of China. The two sides should implement the important consensus of the Bali Summit between the two heads of state, discuss and establish the guiding principles for China US relations, and build a way for China and the United States to get along correctly. The United States should give up unreasonable containment and suppression of China, put President Biden's positive statement into real action, and return to a positive and pragmatic policy towards China. We welcome more American business, strategic and academic people to come to China for exchanges and enhance mutual understanding between the two countries. Thornton said that the United States and China should become strategic partners that can cooperate.
