On the afternoon of January 1, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development set up a main venue in Changsha, Hunan to hold a video conference to deploy the national special rectification of the safety of self built houses to effectively prevent and curb the occurrence of major accidents in production safety. The meeting stressed the need to have a deep understanding of the current grim situation of the safety of self built houses and seriously learn the lessons from the collapse of self built houses in Changsha, Hunan Province. All localities should continue to do a good job in the investigation and rectification of potential safety hazards of rural houses as required, refine classified rectification measures, and completely eliminate potential safety hazards. We should take the initiative to make a thorough study and judgment on self built houses in urban areas in this region, especially for self built houses for business and those outside the scope of investigation and rectification of potential safety hazards of rural houses, so as to avoid dead corners and blind spots. Operational self built houses with serious potential safety hazards shall be closed immediately, and effective control and rectification measures shall be taken in time to resolutely prevent collapse and other accidents. The meeting required that all localities should speed up the research and improvement of various systems of housing construction safety management in view of the prominent problems of housing construction safety in their respective regions. We should study and establish a housing physical examination system to strengthen the safety guarantee of the whole life cycle of housing. We should study and establish a housing pension system to better solve the problem of the source of funds for the maintenance of existing houses. We should study and establish a housing quality insurance system and further improve the project quality and safety supervision mechanism by means of marketization.
