President Xi meeting with President Michelle of the European Council and President von delaine of the European Commission

2022-04-02

China and the EU share broad common interests and a deep foundation for cooperation. China maintains a stable and coherent policy towards Europe. It is hoped that the EU will form an independent understanding of China, pursue an independent policy towards China, work with China to promote the stability and long-term development of China EU relations and provide some stabilizing factors for the volatile world situation. We should take the lead in safeguarding the international system with the United Nations as the core, the international order based on international law and the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, jointly resist the revival of antagonistic thinking in the camp, oppose the creation of a "new cold war", and maintain world peace and stability. China will unswervingly deepen reform and open wider to the outside world. We welcome European enterprises to invest in China and hope that the EU will provide a fair, transparent and non discriminatory environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in Europe. The two sides should strengthen the docking of development strategies and explore the coincidence between China's new development concept and new development pattern and the EU's "open strategic autonomy" economic and trade policy. Novel coronavirus pneumonia should be implemented in a real sense of multilateralism and the global governance concept based on the principle of co - sharing and building and sharing. It will continue to lead the global cooperation in tackling climate change and biodiversity and work hand in hand to overcome the new crown pneumonia epidemic. We welcome the EU's support and participation in global development initiatives. Michelle and von delaine said that China is an important polar force in the world. The EU attaches great importance to China's international status and role and the development of relations with China. For a long time, EU China relations have been mutually beneficial and win-win. Both sides are committed to safeguarding peace and multilateralism. Under the current international situation, it is very important for Europe and China to strengthen dialogue and cooperation. Novel coronavirus pneumonia China is reaffirming its adherence to the one China principle and looking forward to frank exchanges with China and continuing the good momentum of development of EU China relations. We are willing to work with China to deepen cooperation in various fields such as economic and trade, investment, energy and green development, and jointly tackle global challenges such as the new crown pneumonia epidemic, climate change and biodiversity conservation, so as to make efforts to promote world peace, economic growth and common prosperity. The EU is willing to provide support and cooperation for China's successful holding of the second phase of the 15th meeting of the conference of the parties to the Convention on biological diversity. The two sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. EU leaders introduced their views and propositions on the Ukrainian crisis. China's position on the Ukrainian issue is consistent and clear. China has always stood on the side of peace, made independent judgments based on the merits of the matter itself, advocated the maintenance of international law and the recognized basic norms of international relations, adhered to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and advocated the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. First, we should persist in persuading peace and promoting talks. China supports the EU's efforts to resolve the Ukrainian issue politically and has been playing a role in promoting peace and talks in its own way. Peace talks are the only feasible way to avoid escalating tensions. The international community should continue to create conditions and environment for the Russian Ukrainian negotiation process and open up space for political settlement. It should not add fuel to the fire and intensify contradictions. Second, we should prevent a larger humanitarian crisis. China has put forward a six point initiative on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, and has provided a number of batches of emergency humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and supplies to European countries receiving a large number of refugees. China is willing to maintain communication with the EU to jointly prevent a larger humanitarian crisis. Third, we should build lasting peace in Europe and the Eurasian continent. The root of the Ukrainian crisis lies in the regional security contradictions accumulated in Europe for a long time. The fundamental solution is to take care of the reasonable security concerns of all parties concerned. With the development of the times, the cold war thinking can no longer be used to build the world and regional security framework. China supports Europe, especially the EU, to play a leading role, supports Europe, Russia, the United States and NATO to carry out dialogue, face up to the contradictions accumulated over the years, find solutions to problems, and promote the construction of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework. Fourth, we should prevent the expansion of local conflicts. The Ukrainian crisis should be properly handled, but we should not rush to medical treatment, attack one point less than the rest, bind the whole world to this issue, and let the people of all countries pay a heavy price for it. The more critical it is, the more sober and calm it is. The current world economic structure is the framework formed by the long-term efforts of all countries in the world and an organic whole. All parties should cherish this achievement and should not easily impact the existing world economic system, let alone politicize, instrumentalize and weaponize the world economy, causing serious crises in the fields of world finance, trade, energy, science and technology, grain, industrial chain and supply chain. Many people are very worried that the current situation may destroy the achievements of decades of efforts in international economic cooperation. If the situation continues to deteriorate, it is estimated that it may take years, decades or even decades to recover afterwards. China and the EU should strive to control the situation and prevent the spillover of the crisis. In particular, we should maintain the stability of the world economic system, rules and foundation and enhance people's confidence. The two sides can coordinate and cooperate in this regard. The leaders of the two sides believed that the meeting was open, frank and in-depth, which enhanced mutual understanding and reached a lot of consensus. They agreed to continue to strengthen communication and exchanges and carry out coordination and cooperation. Yang Jiechi, he Lifeng and others attended the meeting. (Xinhua News Agency)
