On May 9th, the 4th China Arts and Crafts Expo opened in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. The carved lacquer work "Pure Land Culture vs. Bottle" attracted the attention of visitors. "This work was completed by me and three disciples over a period of 12 years." According to Yuan Shiyong, the carved lacquer work "Pure Land Culture Pair Bottles" has a bottle body that is 2.8 meters high and 1.4 meters wide, respectively. This pair of bottles has carved a total of 270 characters. "This is a character derived from Buddhist scriptures, and all 270 characters have their own stories, so their actions, shapes, and so on are different." Looking at this pair of works, Yuan Shiyong can be said to be proud. He told reporters that he applied over 200 layers of cinnabar paint alone, and then slowly carved it with traditional carving knives, constantly adjusting and processing it before the exhibition. During the 4th China Arts and Crafts Expo, the "Chinese Arts and Crafts Master Yuan Shiyong's Apprentice 'Fu Qi' Art Inheritance Exhibition" was also held here. The Inheritance Exhibition showcases the collaborative works of Yuan Shiyong and more than ten inheritors and apprentices, covering large-scale sculpture art works of Fuzhou lacquer bodiless painting technique and Tangka lacquer painting works. On May 9th, Yuan Shiyong, the director of the Statue Art Committee of the China Arts and Crafts Society and a master of Chinese arts and crafts, introduced his works to reporters. Yuan Shiyong, born into a family of art in eastern Fujian, has been striving to expand the traditional handicraft art team in Fuzhou. Yuan Shiyong stated that his apprentices have a wide age range, ranging from their teens to their fifties. I hope to showcase his and his disciples' works in various fields through the exhibition, so that the public can understand traditional handicraft art and get closer to it. Fuxi, also known as Fuzhou carved lacquer, has a history of nearly a thousand years. Carving lacquer refers to a traditional decorative technique that involves coating multiple layers of lacquer on the surface of objects, and then using techniques such as carving, painting, and inlay to create exquisite decorative effects. Yuan Shiyong stated that many people's understanding of Fuzhou lacquerware began with bodiless lacquerware, but in reality, the origin of Fuzhou lacquerware was to excel in the art of carving lacquer. It is reported that Fuzhou carved lacquer had already shone brightly in the Song Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, thanks to the preferences of the royal family, the art of carved lacquer flourished and developed. Fuzhou, relying on official or private remote trade, transformed from a logistics hub to an important innovation and talent hub for Chinese carved lacquer. It once crossed to Japan and sparked a craze for overseas countries to pursue it. However, the sudden industrialization has become a fatal blow to carved lacquer, and the entanglement of carved lacquer's gradual extinction and tenacious rebirth is gradually fading. How can Fuzhou carved lacquer continue at present? Yuan Shiyong said that reshaping cultural confidence in value cognition and leveraging the trend of cultural and creative industries and the rise of the digital age of the internet are undoubtedly practical and feasible ways to achieve the revival of Fuzhou carved lacquer. And this is also one of the reasons why the carved lacquer work "Pure Land Culture vs. Bottle" appeared. The pursuit of industrialization
