On the 2nd, the Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released a pre estimated GDP for the first quarter of 2024, showing that Hong Kong's GDP increased by 2.7% year-on-year. Statistics show that Hong Kong's gross domestic product increased by 2.3% month on month in the first quarter of 2024, after seasonal adjustments. A spokesperson for the SAR government stated that Hong Kong's economy experienced moderate growth in the first quarter of 2024. According to the analysis of the main expenditure components, benefiting from the further increase in the number of visitors to Hong Kong, the overall service output continues to grow significantly. On the local side of Hong Kong, with the continuous increase in household income and the implementation of multiple measures by the SAR government to boost the atmosphere, private consumption expenditure has slightly increased. The overall investment expenditure has also slightly increased as the economy continues to expand. The spokesperson stated that in the future, as reception capacity continues to recover and the SAR government is committed to promoting a prosperous economy, the further recovery of the Hong Kong tourism industry should support service exports. The geopolitical tension and tight financial conditions will continue to affect the export of goods, but due to the good maintenance of external demand so far, export performance may slightly improve.
