The "Crossing Mountains and Seas to Love Together -2023 Annual Insight into the Performance Market for Large Concerts" released by the China Performance Industry Association and others on the 21st shows that the box office of large-scale concerts with over 5000 people in mainland China in 2023 was nearly 14.6 billion yuan, setting a new historical high. The number of large-scale concerts has exceeded 2400, with a total of over 20 million spectators. The main characteristics of the 2023 concert market are large scale and multiple performances: the number of concerts with over 10000 people in 2023 has tripled compared to 2019, totaling 313 performances. The proportion of concerts held in sports venues reached 36%. The number of single stop and multi event concerts has significantly increased, an increase of 17% compared to 2019. For example, Jay Chou's 2023 Carnival World Tour held four consecutive concerts in multiple cities such as Haikou, Shanghai, and Tianjin. Another obvious trend is a decrease in the concentration of cities hosting large-scale concerts, and the market continues to sink. Compared to 2019, the box office growth in the Northwest region exceeded 900% in 2023, and the box office growth in fifth tier cities exceeded 600%. The Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Beijing Tianjin Hebei, and Sichuan Chongqing regions are still popular hosting areas for concerts, with more than 60% of the total number of projects. From a user perspective, the audience's enthusiasm for watching shows has increased in 2023, with over 20% of ticketed viewers attending more than one concert. Concerts are more favored by young audiences, with nearly 40% of viewers under the age of 24 purchasing tickets; The audience for large-scale concerts is mainly female, accounting for more than 60%. At the same time, the proportion of cross city performances has reached a new high, accounting for 68%. Young audiences aged 18 to 29 have a significantly stronger willingness to watch cross city performances. (Lai Xin She)
