Rail Transit Becomes "Smart" and Urban Travel Is More Convenient -- On the "National Outstanding Engineer Team" Urban Rail Transit System Safety and Operation and Maintenance Guarantee National Engineering Research Center

2024-03-19

On February 26, Ye Hongxia, senior engineer of the National Engineering Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Engineering Center") for the safety and operation and maintenance of urban rail transit system, came to the office early and started a new day of work. Not long ago, her engineering center was awarded the title of "National Excellent Engineer Team". "The Engineering Center is led by Guangzhou Metro Group and focuses on solving engineering and technical problems encountered in urban rail construction and operation, enhancing the safety and maintenance capabilities of the urban rail system," Ye Hongxia told Science and Technology Daily reporters. In recent years, the center has been continuously cultivating in the field of urban rail technology, launching a series of influential research results and applying them to 16 653 kilometer subway lines operated by Guangzhou Metro, with a punctuality rate of over 99.99%. In the future, these achievements will also be promoted to the 21 622 kilometer subway and intercity lines under construction in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Most of the equipment in China's urban rail transit has been localized, but the signal system, known as the brain of train operation, still mainly relies on imports. The high cost of equipment procurement, high cost of spare parts replacement, and long service guarantee cycle are hindering the further development of urban rail transit. "The development of signal systems with independent intellectual property rights has become an urgent problem that needs to be solved," said Chen Jin, Senior Engineer in Signal Engineering at the Engineering Center. In 2008, Guangzhou Metro launched the development of a wireless communication based train control signal system (CBTC). System development, product certification, high-speed train testing... Each stage of development needs to start from scratch and faces unimaginable difficulties. "We have no way out, only to face difficulties, work overtime, and conquer each technology one by one." Chen Jin said that after 8 years of unremitting efforts, the team has conquered more than 10 core technologies, successfully developed a signal system, and achieved the highest level of fully automatic operation of the urban rail transit GoA4. Whether the technology is good or not, the fact is the final say. At the end of 2016, the signal system was put into use in the first phase of Guangzhou Metro Line 7. Since the operation of the line, the punctuality rate of trains has exceeded 99.99%, and the timetable fulfillment rate has exceeded 99.99%. Promoting Integration and Leading the Industry in Intelligence Around 2010, China's urban rail transit construction began to take shape. However, traditional rail transit construction faces problems with system architecture and functional solidification, making it increasingly difficult to meet the growing demand for high-quality and precise travel for passengers. Zhu Wei, senior engineer of the Engineering Center, introduced that in order to create a modern urban rail transit system that can be updated and iterated like a smartphone operating system, they tried to integrate Internet technology and rail transit professional experience. In 2019, the Engineering Center and Tencent established the "Suiteng Joint Laboratory" to jointly develop the smart operating system for rail transit - Suiteng OS. The team broke through the bottleneck of cross domain and cross professional business integration, and through a round of adjustment, released the Suiteng OS 1.0 version in September 2019 and the Suiteng OS 2.0 version in September of the following year. At present, the research and development achievements have also been applied to relevant subway lines in Guangzhou. Zhu Wei introduced that after the launch of smart station applications such as one click station switch, the station patrol work that originally took one hour to complete is now 10
