2024-03-15

From February 2nd to February 20th, the Central Ethnic Orchestra successfully held the European New Year tour of "Eternal Joy of Heaven and Earth · China Festival". The band walked into Vienna, Austria, Hamburg, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Dresden, Warsaw, Poland, and Budapest, Hungary, bringing ancient, youthful, national, and global Chinese folk music to tens of thousands of viewers and hundreds of thousands of viewers in the cloud, receiving a wave of applause and strong emotional resonance. All of this moved me and inspired me to further reflect on the national, modern, and international characteristics of Chinese folk music, exploring the unique value of Chinese folk music in promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning, and promoting people from all countries to know and get to know each other. On February 6th, at the concert venue of the Central Ethnic Orchestra's "Eternal Joy of Heaven and Earth - China Festival" European New Year Tour in Hamburg, Germany, the audience stood up, applauded and cheered. As one of the brand concerts of the Central National Orchestra, Common Emotions, the "Heaven and Earth Everlasting Music · China Festival" takes the time as the axis and interprets the Chinese New Year culture through the form of national orchestral music. With the theme of Spring Festival, Yuanxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival), Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Qixi Festival, Mid Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival and Winter Solstice, it uses music to express the beauty of four seasons, and tells the feelings and life experiences of Chinese people entrusted by the traditional seasons. This musical language is both abstract and vivid, allowing the audience to clearly "see" people and feel the common emotions of humanity through the music. The Prelude to "Eternal Joy of Heaven and Earth" is full of enthusiasm, bringing joy to the earth and people's longing for a better new year. The sound of the flute in "Qingming · Qingqing Missing" sounded, and everyone expressed their cautious pursuit of the Qingming season in the misty rain. "Mid Autumn Festival: Clouds and Breeze Dance" is set against the backdrop of an orchestra, using the erhu to express the homesickness of wanderers under the shining moon, depicting the joy of family reunion, and conveying the eternal question of "Who by the river first saw the moon? When did the river moon shine on people at the beginning of the year?". The Winter Solstice · Fuji Tianchang highlights the expressive and infectious power of the pipa, showcasing a strong ethnic flavor and blessings for a better tomorrow through three movements. During the performance of over half a month, the vast majority of the audience were foreigners. At the end of the song, everyone spontaneously stood up and applauded, with continuous applause; At the end of the performance, people stood up together to cheer, which was shocking - we know that not only did everyone understand Chinese folk music, but they were also deeply moved. "Chinese music is rich in emotions, and the works at today's concert made me feel surrounded by love, which is very beautiful." The audience's words moved me, and my confidant said so. In order to help European audiences better understand the repertoire, we have specially invited Austrian theatrical performer Robert Mayer to serve as a tour guide for German speaking regions. He interacts with the audience humorously and humorously, telling traditional Chinese cultural stories such as Qu Yuan, Cowherd and Weaver Girl, Mid Autumn Festival, and Double Ninth Festival, and also telling the characteristics of Chinese ethnic instrumental music. His explanation brought the audience closer to "Eternal Joy in Heaven and Earth - China Festival", making this tour more three-dimensional and vivid. In order to expand its dissemination, we also collaborated with the classical music online platform Medici to record and broadcast the entire concert at the Hamburg station in Germany, attracting audiences from more countries. In this European tour, we have highlighted the technical characteristics and artistic expression of Chinese ethnic instrumental music in the arrangement and orchestration.
