【 History/Details 】 Shamian West Bridge was built after the signing of the Shamian Concession Treaty in 1861. With a history of only over 100 years, it is the youngest "ancient bridge" in Guangzhou. On the sand side of the Shamian West Bridge, there is a prominent monument that reads "West Bridge (formerly known as England Bridge), built in 1861.". The British once occupied four fifths of the land of Shamian, but initially it was connected to Guangzhou through the East Bridge.
