The Qing Dynasty Qianlong style white glass bottle with spiral patterns wrapped in colored silk is in the collection of the Palace Museum. Recently, the Palace Museum and Jiade Art Center jointly held the "Chengning Qiongying - Palace Museum Collection Glass Fine Exhibition". The exhibition selects more than 120 pieces (sets) of glass art treasures from the 17th to 20th centuries from both China and abroad in the collection of the Palace Museum. Through three units: "Yao Yan Yingcai", "Sparkling Gold", and "Flowing Scenery Ningxia", it showcases the appearance, craftsmanship, and use of glassware in palace life, reflecting the influence of cultural exchange between China and the West on Chinese glass craftsmanship. The history of glass production in China can be traced back to the Western Zhou Dynasty, and after thousands of years of development, it reached an unprecedented peak in the Qing Dynasty. In the 35th year of the Kangxi reign (1696), the Qing Palace Glass Factory was established, which not only absorbed advanced European technology but also continued and developed traditional Chinese glass techniques. The splendid colors, rich shapes, and complex craftsmanship of Qing Dynasty glass are breathtaking. The exhibition hall is filled with a dazzling array of colorful transparent glass curtains, such as a white glass double dragon patterned bell shaped pendant made of sheep fat and white jade, exquisitely decorated Western sapphire blue transparent glass carved with flower and grass patterns, and exquisitely crafted glass tire painted enamel flower and bird patterned snuff bottles. The Qing Dynasty set glass is a product that combines glass full set craftsmanship with car carving craftsmanship, influenced by Western agate relief craftsmanship and incorporating the carving concept of Chinese jade and stone with beautiful colors. The white set red glass double dragon chasing pearl pattern jade teapot spring vase made during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty is a set of exquisite glass pieces. The white glass is the ground, and the outer layer of red glass is carved with layers of banana leaves, tangled branches, and auspicious hanging clouds. The five clawed dragon chasing flame bead pattern on the abdomen is a decoration used by the Qing Dynasty emperor. This vase has a similar shape and decoration to imperial porcelain, appearing solemn and elegant. Venus glass is a type of glass that was born in Venice in the 15th century, named after the sparkling crystalline particles inside. In the early years of the Qianlong reign, under the guidance of missionaries, the glass factory successfully fired this variety. The arm rest of the Venus glass sculpture of landscape figures is carved from a whole piece of Venus glass, in the form of a book scroll. The surface is carved with clouds rolling and flowing, and the cliffs are steep. On the wide water surface, one person sits alone at the bow of the boat, exuding a graceful literary atmosphere. It is reported that the exhibition will continue until March 10th. (Le Xin She) (Wu Suhua)
