2023-11-30

On the 29th, Zimbabwean President Mnangaguwa attended the completion and commissioning ceremony of the upgrading and renovation project of Biquita, Zimbabwe's largest lithium mine. The Biquita mine is located in Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe, approximately 320 kilometers from the capital Harare. The mine has been controlled by Western mining companies for many years and is on the brink of bankruptcy due to poor management. China Mining Resources Group Co., Ltd. (China Mining Resources) acquired Bikita Mine in January 2022 and upgraded and renovated the mine in June 2022. On the same day, Mnangaguva visited the spodumene flotation plant with the accompaniment of Chinese personnel and pressed the production button in the central control room. Mnangaguwa said at the commissioning ceremony that the Biquita mine upgrading and renovation project invested by China National Mining Resources was completed and officially put into production in just over a year. The Chinese company fulfilled its promise and brought advanced equipment and technology to Zimbabwe. The production of Biquita mine will help Zimbabwe achieve its goal of mining output value of $12 billion by 2023. He also expressed appreciation for the construction of bridges, school buildings, hospitals, and other social welfare activities by China Mining Resources in the local area. Wang Pingwei, Chairman of China Resources, stated in an interview with reporters that China Resources will be committed to improving the value chain of lithium products and will begin feasibility studies for smelters in the local area, striving to retain more industrial chains in Zimbabwe. In addition, the company will accelerate the construction of solar power plants in the local area to help Zimbabwe achieve green and sustainable development. (Lai Xin She)
