This new product, like a pin that can be pinned to clothes and the size of an egg, can achieve functions such as taking photos, making phone calls, and real-time translation. Ai Pin not only sets up sensors and is equipped with an AI large model developed based on GPT-4, but also innovates interaction methods. It does not have a screen like a mobile phone, but instead uses laser projection to project the display interface onto the palm of the hand, which can be controlled through clicks, gestures, and voice commands. The new interactive mode breaks through the traditional mode represented by touch screens, allowing users to search and query with just a flick of their fingers, open their palms to receive messages, and automatically estimate the nutritional content of a handful of almonds in their palm. Humane officially claims that the purpose of Ai Pin is to replace mobile phones, but will the rapid development of AI hardware really replace mobile phones? At present, it seems difficult. Although positioned as an "AI personal assistant", its functions are still relatively basic. The functions displayed by Ai Pin at the press conference include voice calling, real-time translation, identifying food and providing nutritional information, recommending restaurants and music, etc. Many of these functions can be implemented by mobile phones, and the substitutability of Ai Pin is not strong. There is still a long way to go in the future to innovate and unlock more diverse AI functions. However, although AI hardware may not necessarily disrupt mobile phones at present, this reflects the gradual maturity of the basic technical conditions for developing and designing new generation intelligent hardware products, and the development and use of AI functional services is becoming a trend. For example, the development of 5G can support more efficient mobile network operations and reduce data transmission costs, making it possible to promote and apply more complex interaction modes on a large scale; The rapid upgrade and iteration of AI chips have improved the ability to handle dense generative artificial intelligence loads, effectively solving the problem of "computing power shortage". The "new entry" into AI is spreading from mainstream PC and mobile devices to a wider range of hardware devices, and AI, originally limited to science fiction works, is moving towards the application layer in various ways. Previously, Facebook's parent company Meta launched the first batch of glasses with built-in AI at the 2023 Developer Conference and proposed a combination of "MR+AI+smart glasses" or future trends. Intel recently announced the launch of the industry's first AI PC acceleration program, which aims to introduce AI performance into over 100 million PC devices by 2025. At the same time, smartphones are also accelerating AI, and Apple is continuously increasing its research and development of generative AI, committed to introducing generative AI technology into mobile devices. Entering user scenarios with intelligent terminals, AI driven hardware innovation is accelerating.
