The Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Lin Shih hsiung, recently stated that the implementation of the "Guangdong car southbound" plan is likely to be carried out in two stages, with the first phase expected to be implemented early next year. In a recent interview with the Hong Kong Chinese Manufacturers Association, Lin Shixiong introduced the latest developments in Hong Kong's sea, land, air transportation, and logistics. Lin Shixiong said that the SAR government is actively discussing with the mainland to "Guangdong cars heading south", which will be implemented in two stages: the first stage is the completion of the large-scale automated parking lot project on the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao artificial island, which can provide parking for Guangdong tourists heading south; The second stage is to fully open up mainland personnel to self drive to Hong Kong. He also stated that since its implementation on July 1, 2023, "Hong Kong Vehicles Moving North" has been highly popular. The SAR government will inspect and evaluate the actual situation, and closely contact frontline departments such as customs and border inspection to explore the feasibility of relaxing measures such as shortening appointment days. Lin Shixiong said that the third runway system of Hong Kong International Airport is expected to be fully completed by the end of next year. After its operation, the airport's passenger and cargo flow is expected to increase by about 50%, which can not only meet long-term transportation needs but also help consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub.
