Accelerated commercialization of autonomous driving

2023-11-02

As an important strategic direction for the transformation and upgrading of the global automotive industry, intelligent connected vehicles have become a commanding point that all parties are vying to seize. How far are we from the commercialization of intelligent driving? Not long ago, at the 2023 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference held in Shunyi District, Beijing, participants believed that with the establishment of a stable supply chain system in China's intelligent connected vehicle industry, intelligent driving technology is advancing towards multi scenario commercial applications. The formation of industrial integration effect has been accompanied by continuous breakthroughs in technological innovation. The mass production and application of key systems and components such as the new generation electronic and electrical architecture, computing platforms, and LiDAR have reduced costs and improved vehicle perception and regulation capabilities. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as of now, the cumulative open testing distance in China has exceeded 20000 kilometers, with a total testing distance of over 70 million kilometers. Moreover, the application scenarios of intelligent connected vehicles are becoming increasingly diverse. Yao Zhenzhi, Deputy Director of the Equipment Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that in the first half of this year, the sales of new passenger cars with comprehensive driving assistance accounted for 42.4% of the total, and multiple scenarios such as autonomous taxis, trunk logistics, and unmanned delivery were carried out in an orderly manner. The commercialization of high-level autonomous driving technology is an important part of developing the intelligent connected vehicle industry and creating a benchmark city for the global digital economy. As one of the earliest cities to develop new energy intelligent connected vehicles, Beijing strives to create a global innovation highland for intelligent connected vehicle technology, maintaining domestic leadership in road opening, safety system construction, policy support, and other aspects, and achieving initial results in industrial agglomeration Wang Zuo, a second level inspector of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, said that currently, Beijing has issued road test licenses for 502 vehicles from 19 autonomous driving enterprises, with a total length of 1543 kilometers of open test roads. The total safe driving distance of autonomous vehicles during road testing has exceeded 17 million kilometers, and all test data ranks among the top in the country. Shunyi is one of the earliest areas in Beijing to carry out research and industrialization of the intelligent connected vehicle industry, forming an industrial ecosystem led by research and development design, based on the manufacturing of complete vehicles and core components, and extended by applications such as shared transportation and unmanned delivery. At present, a large number of new intelligent driving technologies and products have been implemented in Shunyi. Robotaxi, represented by Baidu, as well as unmanned automatic delivery businesses such as Meituan, JD.com, and Mimo Zhixing, are also operating normally in Shunyi. Zhou Jinghui, Director of the Economic and Information Technology Bureau of Shunyi District, Beijing, stated that after nearly 10 years of continuous cultivation, Shunyi District has now established a research and development, testing, validation, and application system for autonomous passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, unmanned delivery vehicles, and special vehicles. At present, Shunyi District has been approved for 408 kilometers of public testing roads for different application scenarios. At the same time, there are 22 Baidu autonomous taxis in the area, with a total mileage of over 500000 kilometers. At the same time, Meituan, Mimo Zhixing, JD Logistics and others have formed the largest unmanned delivery fleet in China, with a total autonomous mileage of over 3.4 million kilometers. The white paper "High level autonomous driving applications" released during the conference shows that autonomous driving is accelerating its expansion from testing and demonstration applications to unmanned driving commercial applications, and is expected to be developed in R
