2023-10-31

Under the "the Belt and Road" initiative, China Bahrain cooperation in energy, infrastructure, finance and other fields has achieved fruitful results. Ali Mudifa, Chief Business Development Officer of the Bahrain Economic Development Commission, recently stated in an interview with Economic Daily that China is one of Bahrain's main trading partners. In the future, cooperation between the two countries in fields such as information and communication technology, manufacturing, and logistics will become closer, injecting new impetus into the economic development of the two countries. Ali Mudifa stated that Bahrain has attracted multiple Chinese flagship enterprises to invest and set up factories in Pakistan. For example, China Power Construction Corporation has undertaken the construction of the Adu Phase II project, which is a large-scale energy project with a unit capacity accounting for a quarter of Bahrain's total national capacity. There is also Huawei Technologies. In 2009, Huawei relocated its headquarters in the Middle East from Dubai to Bahrain and is currently responsible for operations in 21 countries and regions, recruiting over 400 employees. Chinese enterprises have made significant contributions in creating employment opportunities, increasing government revenue, activating local industries, and increasing Bahrain's high-value exports, bringing significant multiplier effects. Many Chinese companies are engaged in manufacturing, services, finance and other fields in Bahrain, and their investments are of great significance for promoting economic cooperation between China and Pakistan and promoting the development of bilateral relations, "said Ali Mudifa. Guided by the "2030 Economic Vision", Bahrain is accelerating the pace of economic diversification and transformation, vigorously developing emerging industries. Ali Mudifa introduced that in the manufacturing industry, Bahrain has developed a specialized downstream aluminum park with a planned area of over 13 square kilometers. The park plans to build smelters, bauxite and alumina refineries, carbon plants, energy and utility facilities, and is committed to creating a competitive and sustainable industrial park to attract domestic and foreign investors. Bahrain is still building a digital city and has launched policies including "cloud first", aiming to build Bahrain into a regional or even world-class data center and build a comprehensive data ecosystem. Bahrain is also vigorously developing its logistics industry and improving its freight capacity, which provides opportunities for Chinese companies in related fields. "The two peoples have a lot in common, and there are many similarities between their cultures. Bahrain welcomes investors and tourists from China very much, and believes that in the process of jointly building the the Belt and Road, the two countries will usher in more opportunities for cooperation." Ali Mudaifa said. (Economic Daily reporter Zhou Mingyang)
