2023-10-16

Recently, the official website of Guangzhou Railway Group released the "Draft for Soliciting Opinions on the Environmental Impact Assessment of the New Guangzhou East Station to Xintang Station Wuliu Line Project". In addition to the construction of the new Guangzhou East to Xintang Wuliu Line, the entire project also includes the highly anticipated upgrade and transformation of Guangzhou East Station into a high-speed railway station. After the transformation, Guangzhou East Station will be upgraded from 7 platforms (16 tracks) to 14 platforms (24 tracks), including 8 platforms (14 tracks) in the ground yard and 6 platforms (10 tracks) in the underground yard, Renovation will be carried out according to the "ground+underground connected parking lot" double-layer parking lot plan. As for whether Guangzhou East Station needs to be closed during the renovation construction period that citizens are concerned about, Guangzhou Railway insiders told reporters that there is currently no consensus on the two options for station construction and non closing station construction. Guangzhou East Station to Xintang Station Wuliu Line: 83.5% is a tunnel, and the "underground high-speed railway" crosses the three districts to build a new Guangzhou railway hub. The Guangzhou East Station to Xintang Station Wuliu Line project is located in Tianhe District, Huangpu District, and Zengcheng District of Guangzhou, starting from Guangzhou East Station in the west and ending at Xintang Station in the east, parallel to the existing Guangzhou Shenzhen Railway. The western end of the line connects the Guangzhou Zhanjiang, Guiguang, Nanguang, Guangzhu, Shenmao Railways, and the Beijing Guangzhou Corridor through the Guangzhou hub, connecting the core areas of the Pearl River Delta and radiating to western and southwestern Guangdong; The eastern end connects the Beijing Kowloon Corridor, connecting central and eastern regions such as Jiangxi and Anhui, and connecting to coastal railways, connecting to the southeastern and eastern coastal areas of China. Combined with the upgrading and renovation of the Guangzhou railway hub's "freight outside and passenger inside", and with the gradual implementation of the Greater Bay Area railway planning project, this project will solve the bottleneck problem of the east-west core channel inside the Guangzhou hub after completion, and is also an important component of the convenient channel connecting western Guangdong, southwestern China, eastern China, and southeastern regions. This project aims to introduce a direct eastbound high-speed railway to Guangzhou Hub Central Station, meeting the needs of convenient travel for passengers in the central urban area; It is in response to the needs of Guangzhou's multi center layout and strengthening the interconnection of major passenger stations; It is necessary to achieve the upgrading and renovation of Guangzhou East Station, promote the integration of station and city construction, and support the improvement of core functions in Guangzhou urban area. The line starts from Guangzhou East Station and uses the original route to cross the Wushan Road bridge under the roadbed. It then enters the tunnel on the north side of Hanjing Road and travels along the south side of the Guangshen Railway to Fengle North Road, exposing the ground. It then goes down through Zhendong Road and crosses Wuchong and Wenchong before continuing eastward. The tunnel passes through the Sinopec coal transportation channel and Guang'ao Expressway, and then turns to the north side of the Guangshen Railway. After passing through multiple expressways, municipal roads, and the Guangzhou Guangzhou Guangzhou Shenzhen Intercity, the line continues eastward, Connect to the Guangzhou Shantou high-speed railway and reserve a line space at Xintang Station. The main line has a total length of 30.014 kilometers and a designed speed of 200 kilometers per hour. It consists of two stations, Guangzhou East Station and Xintang Station. Among them, Guangzhou East Station is an existing station renovation, and Xintang Station is an existing station on the Guangzhou Shantou Railway. The estimated total investment of the project is 33.337 billion yuan, with a planned construction period of 5 years. The main line includes two tunnels, with lengths of 11.268km and 13.801km, totaling 25.069 kilometers, with a tunnel to line ratio of up to 83.5%. That is to say, most of the trains on this section of the railway run underground, which can be called an "underground high-speed railway". This is similar to the connecting line from Guangzhou Station to Guangzhou South Station, which started construction on September 27th this year and was designed with a speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
