China's 13th Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition Team Arrives at the North Pole

2023-09-08

At 13:55 Beijing time on September 5, 2023, the 13th Chinese Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition, organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources, arrived in the 90 degree north latitude and Arctic region during its operation aboard the "Snow Dragon 2" polar exploration icebreaker. The inspection team conducted ice station surveys and comprehensive ocean surveys at the North Pole, focusing on atmospheric, hydrological, biological, and sea ice conditions. This filled the gap in the survey data of China's Arctic Ocean inspection at the North Pole region, helping to further understand the changes in sea ice and ocean currents in the region, deepen understanding of the rapid changes in the Arctic Ocean and its ecological response, and provide data support for effectively addressing the impact of global climate change on China. This scientific expedition is the first Arctic Ocean scientific expedition organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and it is also the first time that a Chinese scientific research ship has arrived in the Arctic region to conduct a comprehensive survey. The inspection team departed from Shanghai on July 12th this year and is expected to return to China in late September. (New News Agency)
