NASA: July 2023 is the hottest month since 1880

2023-08-15

The latest analysis released by NASA on the 14th shows that July 2023 is the month with the highest average temperature since global temperature records began in 1880. The Goddard Space Research Institute of NASA aggregates sea surface temperature data from tens of thousands of ground temperature measurement stations and onboard and buoy instruments to record temperature. The data shows that the average temperature in July 2023 is higher than any recorded average temperature in July, and 1.18 degrees Celsius higher than the average temperature in July from 1951 to 1980. Data shows that some regions in South America, northern Africa, North America, and the Antarctic Peninsula have experienced particularly significant warming, with the average temperature in July being about 4 degrees Celsius higher than the long-term average temperature over the same period. NASA stated that the record high temperatures in July this year were related to rising sea surface temperatures, reflecting the long-term trend of global warming. Data shows that July in the past 5 years has been the hottest 5 months since 1880. Gavin Schmidt, director of the Goddard Aerospace Research Institute, stated that the shocking warming in various parts of the world is mainly caused by human greenhouse gas emissions. The increase in global average temperature has exacerbated the dangerous extreme high temperatures being experienced around the world. (New News Agency)
