The first fully completed homework project for the 13th Arctic Ocean Scientific Examination in China

2023-08-03

At 1:50 on August 2, Beijing time, with the completion of the marine optical survey at the 10th station on the midship deck of the "Xuelong 2" polar scientific research Icebreaker, the first fully completed project of the 13th Chinese Arctic Ocean scientific expedition organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources was generated. The ocean optical observation project belongs to the field of ocean scientific research, and a total of 10 observation stations are arranged for this scientific research. The project uses professional scientific research equipment to detect the solar Irradiance at different depths of the ocean, which is used to measure the absorption and attenuation process of solar Radiant energy in the ocean. Zhong Wenli, an associate professor of Ocean University of China, said that marine optics research can help answer a series of questions, such as how the solar energy enters the ocean, how it is absorbed by the ocean, and where it is ultimately consumed. "Relevant research shows that the sea surface temperature of the Chukchi Sea has shown an obvious upward trend in the past 20 to 30 years, which is closely related to the fact that the ocean has absorbed more solar short wave Radiant energy, and the sea surface temperature rise has an important role in promoting the melting of Arctic sea ice." On July 26, 2023, members of the 13th Chinese Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition prepared to carry out box sediment sampling operations. Wei Hongyi, a reporter from Xinhua News Agency, photographed that China's 13th Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition arrived at its first operation site in the Chukchi Sea on the afternoon of July 26, Beijing time, and officially started its oceanic scientific research operations. At present, the oceanic scientific research assignment is ongoing. According to the schedule, the oceanic scientific survey in Chukchi Sea Area will be completed in the middle of August.
