2023-07-05

【 History/Details 】 The camphor tree introduced today is estimated to be 181 years old and is located at the Customs Branch on the side of No. 53 Shamian Street. It belongs to the second batch of ancient trees identified in Guangzhou. The bark of the camphor tree is as rough as an old man's hand, but it still has lush branches and strong growth, witnessing the historical changes and prosperity of Shamian. In 1842 (the 22nd year of Daoguang Reign of the Qing Dynasty), the Qing Dynasty was defeated in the First Opium War with Britain. The Qing government was forced to sign the Sino British Treaty of Nanking Treaty with Britain on the British flagship Kanghuali (Yigaohuali) at Xiaguan River in Nanjing (then called Jiangning). And this tree is one of the three ancient trees planted during the war of 1842 and surviving to this day, with particularly strong vitality. 【 Basic Information 】 【 Location Information 】 Address: Resident Committee of Cuizhou Community, Shamian Street, Liwan District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province Detailed Location: Customs Branch Office on the 53rd side of Shamian Street 【 Growth Status 】 (Xinhua News Agency)
