Qu Dongyu was reappointed as Director General of FAO

On July 2 of the 43rd session of the General Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization, the election of the new Director General was held in Rome, the capital of Italy. Qu Dongyu, the Chinese candidate and current Director General, won re-election with a high vote. Qu Dongyu was elected Director General of FAO in June 2019, becoming the first Chinese Director General in the history of FAO. Since assuming the post of Director General of FAO, Qu Dongyu has actively led FAO to respond to global food security challenges and help countries, especially developing countries, develop food and agriculture, which has been recognized by the majority of FAO member countries. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was established in 1945, with its headquarters in Rome, Italy. It is a specialized agency within the United Nations system responsible for cooperation in the field of food and agriculture, and has significant influence in global food and agriculture policy exchange, standard setting, information statistics, and other fields.
