Chinese Buddhist delegation to Thailand to attend the 18th United Nations WeChat Festival celebration

From June 1st to 2nd, a Chinese Buddhist delegation led by Master Yan Jue, the President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, and Master Pu Zheng, the Deputy Secretary General, attended the 18th United Nations Vesak Festival celebration event in Bangkok, Thailand, with 28 members. More than 800 Buddhist representatives and dignitaries from 47 countries and regions gathered together to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and nirvana of the Buddha. They also conducted in-depth discussions and extensive exchanges around the theme of this event - "Buddhist wisdom in responding to global crises". Director Chen Ruifeng of the State Administration of Religious Affairs of China sent a congratulatory letter to the celebration of the United Nations WeChat Festival. The letter mentioned that the United Nations WeChat Festival is an important platform for exchanges and mutual learning among the Buddhist communities of various countries. On this important festival, the Chinese Buddhist delegation will work together with representatives of other countries to contribute Buddhist wisdom and strength to promoting world peace and development, responding to global crises, and jointly promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. Wu Guosheng, consultant of the Chinese Buddhist delegation, delivered a congratulatory message at the conference. President Yan Jue led representatives of Chinese Buddhism to recite sutras and pray for blessings. On the morning of the 2nd, Yan Jue delivered a speech at the United Nations Convention Center in Bangkok, extending beautiful holiday blessings to Buddhists around the world, as well as all sectors and people of Thailand. In his speech, he mentioned that on the day of Vesak, which is of great significance, we are filled with an immense sense of gratitude. We are grateful for the wisdom and light that Buddha has brought to the world and humanity, for his guidance on the path of life, suffering, and happiness, and for his teachings on purifying the human heart. Yanjue emphasizes that Buddhists from various countries and regions around the world should actively promote the inheritance and development of Buddhism in the new era, deepen the modern interpretation of Buddhist scriptures, the contemporary dissemination of Buddha's teachings, the contemporary practice of practicing Buddhism, and the education and training of Dharma promoting talents; To explore the establishment of a Buddhist exchange platform and cooperation mechanism to cope with the global crisis, actively promote the Buddha's spirit of compassion and solidarity, and contribute the positive power of Buddhists to jointly overcome the global crisis; We should actively promote mutual understanding and cooperation between religions, promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the East and the West, seek the greatest centripetal force for the well-being of mankind, peace and development of the world, and draw a concentric circle of values of different civilizations. Yan Jue particularly pointed out that in commemorating the Buddha, we aim to promote his thoughts and noble spirit of "compassion, wisdom, equality, the Middle Way, and harmony", and contribute the wisdom and strength of Buddhism in dealing with various crises that are constantly emerging around the world. Buddhists from all countries should join hands and work together to make new and greater contributions to human happiness, peace, and lasting world peace, and to building a community with a shared future for mankind. In the afternoon of that day, all representatives of the Chinese Buddhist delegation participated in the lighting and praying activities of the Buddha City in the Buddha Tongfu. During his stay in Bangkok, President Yan Jue and his delegation met with the Thai monk King Songdepa Aliya Ongsakadayana Elder, the President of the International Council of the United Nations Wessek Festival and the President of the International Association of Buddhist Universities, Phnom Chi Elder, the President of Mahachulalongkorn University in Thailand, Dharma King Gangchi Elder, Dawn Temple Javert Elder, Sri Lanka, the Askari sect's Grand Tutor, Valakagoda Nianatna Elder, and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mr. Gunawadna, Elder Ashin Nannysala, President of Tidagu University in Myanmar, and Elder Kamarangcho, Deputy King of Bhutan, among others
