The Nature Index is compiled and regularly published by a subsidiary of the internationally renowned technology publishing organization Springer Nature Publishing Group. It tracks research papers published in 82 high-quality journals, reflecting global high-quality research output and cooperation based on the number and proportion of papers published by relevant institutions, countries or regions. A paper published entirely by Chinese researchers will bring one "share" to China. The data from natural index analysis shows that from January to December 2022, the "contribution share" of Chinese authors was 19373, ranking first; The United States has 17610 copies. Since the first introduction of the natural index in 2014, China's "share" has rapidly increased, becoming a leading country in the fields of physical science and chemistry in 2021. The latest data from January to April 2023 shows that China has also surpassed the United States for the first time in the field of Earth and environmental science. A report from the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy in Japan in 2022 stated that between 2018 and 2020, Chinese research accounted for a higher proportion of the top 1% of papers with the highest number of citations than American research.
