The "2022 Guangdong Province National Reading Index Report" was released in Guangzhou on the 20th. The report pointed out that survey data shows that the interest of Guangdong residents in paper reading has rebounded in 2022, with 55.24% of respondents preferring to read paper books and magazines, a 4.12 percentage point increase from the previous year. The launch ceremony of the "Book Fragrance Lingnan" National Reading and Guangdong Province's 2023 "World Reading Day" themed event was held at the Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province. The above report released on site showed that the comprehensive reading rate of adult residents in Guangdong in 2022 was 94.79%. In terms of reading time, the average daily reading time for adult residents in Guangdong in 2022 was 42.64 minutes for paper reading materials, and 124.1 minutes for electronic reading materials. The average daily reading time for electronic reading materials is about three times that of paper reading materials. The report also states that in terms of reading volume, the average annual reading volume of adult residents in Guangdong in 2022 was 6.22 copies for paper readers and 5.66 copies for electronic readers, both of which showed a slight increase compared to the previous year. Compared to 5 years ago, the average annual reading volume of paper-based readers increased by 1.32 copies, and the daily average duration of electronic reading increased by 20.3 minutes. The "2022 Guangdong Public Library Development Report" released during the same period of the event shows that in 2022, 150 county-level and above public libraries in Guangdong Province had a total construction area of 1.7314 million square meters (excluding the total library), and the total number of people entering the library throughout the year was 85.4793 million. It is reported that Guangdong will organize and carry out "Book Fragrance Lingnan" selection activities, "Book Run Countryside" reading activities, "Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Southern Book Fragrance Festival" series activities, and the 2023 Southern Flower Blossoming "4.23 World Reading Day" nationwide reading series activities, among others, to take multiple measures and ignite a reading craze. The first "Reading Promotion Award" of the Southern Book Fragrance Festival was held at the event site, recognizing ten outstanding reading promoters and ten collective members, and launching the "Towards Reading" reading documentary.
