Focus on building a standardized elderly care service industry

2023-04-20

According to reports, the current batch of new elderly care professions has attracted many young people, and an increasing number of highly educated young people are joining the ranks of new elderly care professions such as health care providers and professional caregivers. The post-90s are starting to provide elderly care for the "post-90s". With the continuous improvement of social and economic development level, people have put forward higher requirements for elderly care services. New professions such as health caregivers, occupational caregivers, and bath assistants are precisely based on the detailed professional division of labor derived from traditional elderly care services. The emergence of these new professions has made it possible to specialize in elderly care services. The division of labor in the new profession of elderly care has filled the "vacuum" created by the rapid development of technology and the untimely transformation of social aging. It has also changed the concept of elderly care in families with professional literacy, making market elderly care services an important component of life. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the population aged 60 and above in China reached 280.04 million in 2022, and the aging population is an important feature of our society for a long time to come. The massive elderly population inevitably brings a huge demand for elderly care services, which are far from being fully covered by current social elderly care services, including new professions for elderly care. Therefore, the job content of engaging in elderly care services is different from the traditional meaning of "serving and taking care of the elderly", which enables more and more young people to give up their prejudices and be willing to join the elderly care service industry. This trend can be seen from the "Analysis Report on the Employment Prosperity of Health Caregivers" recently released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. A survey of healthcare professionals nationwide in 2020 showed that in this group, 5.3% were aged 25 and under, and 15% were aged 26 to 35. Although individuals over 46 years old are still the main force of current health care professionals, accounting for more than half of the proportion, the proportion of young people under 35 years old has also exceeded 20%, which is already quite significant. However, it still needs to be noted that in people's traditional perception, the new profession of elderly care and traditional elderly care services such as home nannies and hospital caregivers are easily summarized as one, which is still a certain distance from the emerging and dignified standardized health service industry that the new profession of elderly care aims to create. The reason why the public still finds it difficult to distinguish the new professions of elderly care from nannies, caregivers, etc. in terms of cognition is because the elderly care service industry still has few new technologies and technologies to apply. At the same time, it is still difficult to quantify the results of using professional knowledge such as psychology and nursing to improve elderly care services, which makes most families with elderly people who purchase services still believe that only "service and patience" is needed to do a good job in elderly care services, and they lack sufficient recognition of the technical content of elderly care services. This inevitably corresponds to the reality of income not being able to increase and young people not seeing career development prospects, which naturally excludes them from joining the elderly care service industry. In addition, the strong mobility of personnel in the traditional elderly care service industry has led to families mostly purchasing and evaluating services through traditional methods such as acquaintances' introductions, which inevitably hinders the industrialization and standardization of the elderly care service industry. Once disputes arise in elderly care services, it is often difficult to obtain fair and efficient treatment. Therefore, from the long-term development of the elderly care service industry, providing more high-quality services to society and attracting more attention and choices from new forces
