Recently, the press conference of the Yellow Book of the Middle East Development Report No.24 (2021~2022): Development Planning and Prospects of the Middle East Countries, co-sponsored by the West Asia and Africa Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Gulf Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Social Sciences Literature Press, was held in the form of online and offline combination. Yang Qun, chief editor of the Social Science Literature Press, and Li Xinfeng, director of the Institute of West Asia and Africa, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended the conference and delivered speeches. Wang Lincong, deputy director of the West Asia and Africa Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, presided over the conference. Experts and scholars from many domestic universities and research institutions attended the meeting to study and judge the evolution and trend of the situation in the Middle East. The theme of this year's Middle East Yellow Book is "the development plan and prospects of the Middle East countries". First, it introduces the basic situation, main characteristics, implementation results, problems and impacts of the development plan of the Middle East countries; The second is to discuss the overall situation of the Middle East from 2021 to 2022 in terms of security situation, political situation, economic development and international relations; Third, it discussed the anti-terrorism situation in the Middle East, the new progress of the Iranian nuclear issue, the reconstruction of Iraq, and the climate governance of GCC countries; Fourth, it introduced the development of foreign trade and foreign direct investment in West Asia. The report points out that since 2021, the epidemic situation and regional conflicts in the 21st century have been intertwined, and the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, with significant rise in instability and uncertainty. The situation in the Middle East and the development of the Middle East region have presented many new changes. First, the competition among the major powers in the Middle East region has become more intense, and the position of the Middle East in the global strategic competition has become more prominent. At the same time, the strategic autonomy of the countries in the Middle East region has increased, and they have increased their participation in regional issues and even international affairs. Second, the relations between countries in the region tend to ease, and there is a new trend of transition from the "wave of turbulence" since the upheaval in the Middle East to the "wave of relaxation" for seeking stability and development at this stage. At the same time, hot issues have not cooled down, fundamental contradictions and differences have not eased, conflicts are frequent, the Middle East security dilemma is severe, and the regional situation is still full of variables. Third, the Middle East countries should accelerate the implementation of development plans, explore new ways of innovative development and independent development, and strive to solve the problems of people's livelihood, change the development dilemma, and embark on the path of sustainable development. The report points out that under the new historical conditions, new progress has been made in the docking of the development plans of the Middle East countries with the "the Belt and Road" initiative. The countries in the Middle East actively responded to the "Global Development Initiative" and "Global Security Initiative" proposed by China and accelerated the pace of comprehensive cooperation. Jointly overcoming difficulties, promoting development and building security have become the common vision of China and the Middle East countries, and further push the relationship between China and the Middle East countries into a new stage. In the long run, the relations between the Middle East countries have gradually eased, the Middle East countries have accelerated the implementation of development plans, and the strategic autonomy of the Middle East countries has increased, which has brought new opportunities for the development and stability of the Middle East region, and is shaping a "new Middle East" different from the past. Many experts on the Middle East issue at the meeting believed that the report focused on the development plans of the Middle East countries and the new changes in the regional situation, assessed the impact of the implementation of development plans by the Middle East countries, and predicted and judged the trend of the situation in the Middle East region. The report integrates basic research and policy research, and has academic principles
