2022-12-14

On December 13 local time, when asked whether the Russian side would consider withdrawing its troops from Ukraine by the end of this year, the press secretary of the Russian President Peskov gave a negative answer. According to reports from Tass News Agency, Moscow Communist Youth League Member and other Russian media, on December 13, when answering questions from reporters, Peskov said that Russia did not intend to withdraw its troops from Ukraine before the end of this year. He also added that the basic condition for ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine was that Ukraine recognized that some regions had joined Russia after holding referendums. On the 12th, Ukrainian President Zelensky proposed to the international community the "three steps" to achieve peace at the G7 online summit. "The first step is to increase support for Ukraine's national defense and provide Ukraine with tanks, rockets, long-range missiles, etc.; the second step is to provide Ukraine with new assistance to maintain Ukraine's financial, energy and social stability; and the third step is to convene a global peace summit to discuss Ukraine's previous peace plan." Zelensky said. The G7 countries subsequently promised to "meet Ukraine's urgent requirements". The statement of G7 leaders issued by the White House on December 12 said that "G7 will continue to coordinate efforts to meet Ukraine's urgent needs for military and defense equipment, and immediately focus on providing Ukraine with air defense systems." In addition, European Union foreign ministers agreed on December 12 to inject another 2 billion euros into a fund for military assistance to Ukraine. During the nearly 10 month conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the fund has been basically exhausted, and more funds may be injected in the future. On the 13th, Peskov responded to Zelensky's request and the western military aid commitment, saying that the Kiev authorities must consider the current reality. These steps proposed by Ukraine will actually lead to the continuation of military operations. (Liu Xinshe)
